mood: tired

music: 'hyperstation' by sonic youth

cigarettes depress me. i know this for a fact and it is very predictable. but then, after that initial 15-20 minute haze, i get a boost in my mood. basically, the comedown is actually a thrust towards sociability and almost manic behavior and thoughts. cigarettes to me are delayed cancerous prozac sticks.

anyways, today i got my car back. it turns out that while braking, my brake line literally exploded. it's replaced now, and as an added bonus, the mechanic did his best to reshape the hood and front bumper. of course, the hood won't stay closed by itself, so he used a length of wire to tie it shut. hopefully it doesn't fly up and blind me while i'm driving, hurtling me into yet another accident.

at this point, my fairly new dream of going to the coachella music festival is dashed. for those of you who don't know, coachella is a two day half indie, half mainstream woodstock of the 21st century. the reason i actually thought about going this year was, first off, because last year featured the cure, stereolab, and radiohead, among others in my favorites list, and secondly because of this year's bands:

bauhaus
cocteau twins
new order
m83
the raveonettes
gang of four
the arcade fire
the fiery furnaces

not to mention the dozens of other artists that span a variety of genres, moods, and backgrounds.

my hopes and dreams were dashed by the same thing that created them. because of the high anticipation of bands like gang of four, cocteau twins, and especially bauhaus reforming for this one show, the ticket prices have reached about $80 a day at the cheapest. last year, coachella sold out unbelievably quickly, so who knows how fast it'll be this year? as an added factor, at bauhaus' last reunion tour in 1998, tickets sold out 4 minutes after the box office opened. now i agree those bands are among the elite, but i don't think it's worth all the effort. anyways, at those prices, i couldn't possibly get anyone other than the regulars to come, which might get quite boring quite quickly, no offense to the regulars.

ah, whatever. there will be plenty of more affordable shows to come. i do live only 40 minutes away from the sunset strip, you know.

tomorrow, i plan to pick up information on loyola high's europe trip program. 3 weeks with my peers and minimal guardianship in a dream continent. for $3000. i'll start saving. the trip is supposed to cover 3 countries: france, spain, and italy, but after the chaperones return to the states, we're welcome to stay behind for up to another 70 or so days if we really wanted to. from the stories i've heard, it's a great experience, and i hope to make it into the group before admittance is full.

last week, i finally bought that new guitar amp i've had my eye on for a few months. the fender princeton 650. i actually found it on ebay for about $130 less than the guitar center listed price, which is about 4 bens even. i paid $270, shipping included. it shipped today and is due in on tuesday, february 8th.

ok kiddies, time for bed. i'm exhausted.

Don't worry...if your hood breaks loose and flies up, it'll rip off, cartwheel over the roof of your car, and land in the path of the bad guys chasing you.

At least, that's how it works in MacGyver!

As for Europe--awesome, I really hope you get to go. It sounds like a fabulous experience. I also hope you'll keep blogging while you're there!

yeah my car now qualifies as such a highly ranked deathtrap, it might be of use in disposing of unwanted ones, if not myself in the process.

now all i have to do is develop rugged good looks in my post-adolescent years and i'll be set.
