music: 'christine' by siouxsie and the banshees

there are two things that come to mind when the phrase 'awesome present' is uttered.

the first is a mix cd. there's a whole world of music out there that not even the snobbiest of snobs has heard yet, and even if it's been heard by the masses, there are innumerable sequences, crossfades and fade-outs, transitions and cliffhangers, and no less than infinite messages to be sent by a single 80 minute cd. despite the fact that the art isn't by the sender, a mix cd is one of the most personalized gifts to give, and whenever i get one, i leap for the nearest cd player and give my new cd its first spins. never have i been disappointed by a mix.

the second is just a simple drawing. any old drawing will do. as long as it's on a lined piece of paper. there's just such a certain something in a college ruled masterpiece. a something that tells the world, 'you gave me these lines, but all i'm going to do is draw as if they're not there.' it's a total sense of freedom in expression and such an irony overload. something beautiful on something meant to be mechanical and calculated.

of course there are other things out there that i appreciate and cherish. these are just the first two that come to mind.
