so my birthday came and went. and just like i expect from my birthday nowadays, it was just like any other day. the only difference was the flood of birthday messages and the much appreciated gifts from melissa, randall, and rhea. thanks to those three i now have my own portable turntable, perfect for playing thrift store finds that can be described as serendipitous and/or hilariously kitsch.
anyway, it was michelle's birthday yesterday, and she turned 20, which to most of us here seems impossibly old. in fact, 19 already seems uncompromisingly unyoung, though all it does is let me "do everything that i could at 18, only with a year of security", as another friend put it. melissa put a hysterically honest spin on michelle's age last night, which i applauded her for, but also found a tinge cruel. those of you who know my sense of humor know how i enjoy a bit of irreverence every now and again.
michelle said, "aww guys, i'm not a teenager anymore!"
to which melissa replied, "yeah i know, you're halfway to 40."
the look on michelle's face after that was pretty good.
