music: 'drowning man' by the cure
so i'm walking back to my car from salvation army yesterday. (the one in the middle of culver city.) and i'm across the street from my car, when out of nowhere there appears this orange, black, and white cat. my experience with cats is of them always being scared of me, so i thought that as soon as it saw me, it would either stop in its tracks or run away. but this cat kept walking next to me, following me to the car. as i crossed the street, a car passed by and scared it, so it darted across to the sidewalk on the other side. i was curious as to where it went, so i looked around to the passenger side of my car.
it was sitting there, waiting for me. so i sat down and started to pet it. surprisingly, it still wasn't scared of me at all. it kept going around and around me and nuzzling up against my legs. eventually it jumped up onto my lap, which i'm definitely not used to seeing as how all my friends' cats always ignore me. it was cute the way it climbed up, found sure footing, then collapsed on purpose into a fluffy ball on my lap. her eyes were a piercing amber hue, and her fur was soft and not flying around everywhere. i would have to guess that she was still young. at least young enough not to know to be scared of strange asian boys walking the streets of culver city.
she proceeded to start bathing herself whilst on my lap. i always like to watch animals do that. my fondest memory of bubbles, the stray bunny we found a few weeks ago, was of him cleaning himself off. i spent about half an hour with this cat on my lap. i had to be feeling pretty high up there; i was glad that this cat chose me at random to her pillow.
something shifted after she finished cleaning herself, though. everytime i tried to pet her, she gently clawed and bit my hand or arm. cats' claws and teeth are very sharp and not unbearably painful, but still painful nevertheless. but i let her have her way with my hand for some reason. eventually i realized that no one had walked by on this side of the street for a long time, and right on cue someone walked by. in pure ADD fashion, the cat leapt out of my lap and walked alongside this unnamed stranger.
crushed.
i never thought i'd be ever rejected by a cat.

Always rejected by cats...and then, when one seems to be giving you notice, all of a sudden--rejected again!
You've stumbled upon true irony...made all the more poignant by the fact that the unexpected result was, in fact, the original expected result!
oh... is that what this bitter taste in my mouth is?
yeah, irony's fun, isn't it? it lets you pretty much pity and make fun of yourself simultaneously. gotta love a multi-tasking contradiction.
