music: 'sing for me' by the fiery furnaces
yesterday at work, simeon and i were talking about how different our high schools were/are. granted, he went to school in a third world country and 10+ years ago, but still. here are two such examples of that 'but still'.
loyola requires 2 things when you are absent: 1) a phone call from a parent/guardian explaining why you aren't at school, and 2) a signed note from a parent/guardian of the same type. when simeon didn't feel like going to school, he would just ride the public bus until it came full circle back to his own house. school starts at 7AM, and he would be back at 7:30AM. he would explain to his parents that there was a faculty meeting, and they bought it every time.
second is something i don't have a comparison to at loyola. he and his friends were in the same class, and they'd sit in the back together. while the teacher's back was turned, they would actually smoke in class and franticly clear the smoke with a paper fan. that's freakin' hilarious.
tomorrow i'm going to the st. monica prom with a bunch of friends. i'm trying to clear any expectations, since i really know nothing about the atmosphere to be. plus, there's heightened tension between some of my friends that might ruin the entire evening for me. hopefully not. i picked up my tux today and i was surprised at how loose-fitting it is. my everyday clothes are less comfortable for some reason. but my regular clothes don't have a matching blue paisley vest/tie combination. i'll post pictures as soon as whenever.
lastly, i've got a surprise for everyone, but mostly for myself. i'll reveal it on saturday with pictures pictures pictures.
